I feel like such a fangirl but....yay! Vampire Knight Guilty ep 2's raw is out on You Tube! :D

Watching this show is such a guilty pleasure of mine. Two brooding, angst-ridden handsome vampire boys and a human girl with a mysterious forgotten past locked in a love triangle. I mean, what more could a fan girl ask for? Thirteen episodes aired earlier this year and it's great to see that the series has another thirteen episodes to expand the story. Spoiler alert ahead! Highlight and read at your own risk! >>> So it looks like we'll finally get to see Yuuki do some serious Rido butt kicking vampire style! I'm sick of her always getting saved by Zero and Kaname. There's only so much swooning and saving I can take!


Although the series does have it's faults (it does tend to drag on at times in the angst department), the art is pretty, the pacing relatively fluid and the plot intriguing enough to keep me thirsting for more (haha, yeh, bad pun I know).

I'd probably recommend Hino Matsuri's Vampire Knight manga and anime to anyone who's a fan of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series.

Hino and Meyer both begin the story with similar premises: pretty boys, high school life, good vampires vs bad vampires, 21st century alternative vampire diets, etc...but where Meyer spends most of her first novel cranking up the chemistry between Bella and Edward, Hino takes a different approach, introducing us first to the vampire world and its strict hierarchy from the purebloods at the very top (Harry Potter anyone?) to the Level E's or human-turned-vampires who have been completely taken over by their vampire sides right at the very bottom.

In Hino's vampire world, only pureblood vampires have the ability to turn humans into vampires although these former-humans are bound by the will of their pureblood masters and will eventually turn into Level E monsters unless they drink the blood of their masters. This provides Hino with a great angst vehicle which becomes a major part of the first season: "help me! I'm turning into a monster against my will! Kill me whilst I'm still human!!" **much angsting then ensues...Claymore anyone?**

Hino also adds romance to the mix, although at times the love one of the male leads feels towards Yuuki, the poor widdle human girl caught up in the midst of all the vampire intrigue at school, turns pretty dark and possessive. (It kinda makes Edward and Jacob's love look a little light and fluffy.)

Disregarding the prettiness of the series, finding out about Yuuki's hidden past is probably the major reason why I'm hooked on Vampire Knight. Hints at the beginning already suggest that there's something fishy going on and I've always had a love for intrigue, especially when it's coupled with a bit of romance and lots of foreshadowing.

The serious side of me realises just how frivolous and teenagery being interested in this sort of stuff is but following Hino and Meyer's stories give me too much girly gratifications to want to give this stuff up in favour of some more serious reads...*sigh*.
