For our flight from Sydney to Brisbane, Uncle Edward managed to book us on the latest Qantas flight that serves breakfast so we got the best of both worlds: a bit of a sleep-in (although anything before the pm's is early for Bon and me on non-uni and non-work days) and food.
Now, I know what people must be thinking: "'Air plane food' Ugh, that stuff's gross! Yuck! Yuck!" but seriously I haven't really come across any particularly foul tasting meals on any of my jet-setting adventures. On the contrary, there's usually one portion of the meal that's really tasty (usually dessert, go figure). The staff were really nice about it, too. The cabin attendant who served me and the supervising CA came and apologised profusely and they even served Jeremy and me a range of pastries and assorted jams and scones from the first class breakfast trolley to make up for it. What lovely people!
This time round, the upside on our Gold Coast flight was definitely the hot breakfast buns we were served-with creamy, ham and melted cheese centres. The bread was slightly sweet, but not overly so and the centre was just savoury enough to balance the bread's sweetness (too busy enjoying it to take a photo, drat!). Bon and Ness wanted to ask for more, lol...that's how good they were!
It puts me in mind of another breakfast bun from Australian Airline (you know...the short-lived one which was designed as the mid-class range between Jet Star and Qantas mostly for frequent flyer point flyers?): the Japanese-style Curry Bun or 'Kare Pan' as the Japanese would put it. Warm and soft full of yummy curry flavour inside with just the right amount of sauce for it to be a moist and delectable treat but not too much so that it became a mess to eat.

There used to be a bread shop in Chatswood run by Japanese people that sold curry buns but they closed down ages ago and I haven't found a good substitute anywhere else. Ah well, I'll keep on searching... :(
That's exactly why we decided to pilfer all the cutlery. I mean, if they're going to throw them out, we might as well reuse them, right? The fact that we weren't quite sure whether there was enough cutlery for seven in an apartment outfitted for four and were thus very grateful for any extra instant and free cutlery was just a very very very astonishing coincidence.
Yeaaaap.....that's right.......
To the left is a spoon from a domestic flight between Heyuan and Kunming in China, the middle spoon is from a Cathay Pacific flight and the spoon on the right is an example of the cute stirrers that Aunty Janice was so jazzed up about (from some unknown flight).
They're lightweight and come in really handy when you're travelling. What's not to love about sturdy plastic cutlery?
So next time you fly, remember: do the Ky Thing and take your plastic cutlery with you when you leave.
The environment thanks you profusely.
